At last we are wrapping up the saga of our 40th anniversary competition. We have learned a lot – sometimes the expense of those who entered…
We underestimated the admin time it took to deal with 40-plus entries in a multiplicity of formats. Also the difficulty of squeezing their activities into our 10 categories. Some outstanding groups just didn’t fit. But we thought we must stick to what we had laid down.
In the end, so many entries really impressed us that it was impossible to do justice to all.
We have turned all the results into a special issue of our magazine. We have crammed in mentions of as many Friends groups as possible, prize winners or not. So everyone can see what (almost) everyone did.
If you are a member of TLC, you should get two print copies before Christmas.
The prize money came from a couple of bequests. We wanted to disburse it to Friends groups, and the competition seemed a good way. It actually was, in that we now have a stock of great stories illustrating how amazing Friends groups are. We can use that.
But we don’t want to do a competition again! If we get hold of some money in future, we want to find a better way of distributing it to Friends groups… Any ideas?
