6 March 1984. Martin Niemöller died (aged 92). He was a leading Lutheran religious opponent of Hitler’s Nazi regime during the late 1930s and best known for his poem “First They Came”. He was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen and Dachau concentration camps from 1938 to 1945.
