It turns out that the real purpose of the manager's call was to tell me that we're too understaffed to reopen and so I may be moved to another branch or "volunteered" to a vaccine centre.

"Can we hire in staff to replace everyone who left?"
"No."

Provably shouldn't have laughed out loud at the audacity of my manager calling me on my day off to tell me I "need to volunteer" to be a Covid Marshall at the upcoming Scottish elections and that I would "have to use annual leave" in order to "take the time off work."
