Wahida Amiri worked as a librarian before the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan last August. "I cared deeply about books because up until the age of 20 I couldn't read myself." "The library was my happy place where everyone was welcome, especially women." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-62441553

Showcasing culture from Ukraine is a great example of soft power and advocacy. On Sept 7th, @britishlibrary through the @LKN_Libraries is organising an evening of Ukrainian literature which will be beamed out through the public library network. https://twitter.com/enballet/status/1546451981610278913

Tickets are now on sale for the United Ukrainian Ballet, performing Alexei Ratmansky's Giselle at the @LondonColiseum

It has been terrible to watch the hollowing out of children's library services since 2010. We had something that was the envy of the world, the foundation of literacy, the cornerstone of democracy. History will not look kindly on the governments that have run it into the ground. https://twitter.com/wylie_alan/status/1557974612268531714

Alan Wylie @wylie_alan

“It was found that there has been a significant downward trend in staff, spending and opening hours across children’s public library services in England between 2010 and 2016. The research found that there has indeed been hollowing out of children’s library services.” 1/2

We're planning a new exhibition called Levolution! Community Protests Ten Years On.

But we need YOUR help to make it happen

In early 2013 there were protests across Levenshulme when it was announced that the local library and swimming baths would be closed.
