WHO WE ARE

The Library Campaign (TLC) is a charity with the objective ‘to advance the lifelong education of the public by the promotion, support, assistance and improvement of public libraries through the activities of friends and user groups We are committed to handling the personal data of our members and supporters with care and respect and in compliance with current legislation. In particular, we do not pass information to third parties for marketing or trading purposes. This privacy policy gives further details on how we gather, store, access and use personal data.

WHAT DATA WE COLLECT

The Library Campaign collects data on members when they join TLC, on those who register for conferences and events, who donate funds and correspond with us over library issues.

The data we collect includes name and contact details (postal address as well as telephone number(s) and email address(es) if offered) in addition to information about the individual’s transaction with TLC.

HOW WE USE YOUR DATA

Members’ data is collected through legitimate interest in the work of TLC. Information on financial transactions –  registration for events and conferences, the purchasing of merchandise –  is collected for accounting purposes.

Members are sent a magazine The Library Campaigner (normally twice a year), a monthly email newsletter where we have been given an email address, information on events specific to their membership including on arrangements for the Annual General Meeting and reminders regarding the renewal of their membership. 

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR DATA

The data we collect is stored securely by our Treasurer. A copy is kept offline

Members’ addresses are passed to the printer of the Magazine in the form of printed labels, or a n email attachment containing only their correspondence address

All other data will not be shared with any other organisation. Members’ data will be stored until they have cancelled their membership, or two years after their membership has lapsed. 

Data on individuals and their financial transactions with TLC will be kept for six years.

YOUR RIGHTS

If you believe that the Library Campaign holds information on you have a right to ask for confirmation on whether we are processing your personal data and/or a copy of your personal data. You are only entitled to information about your personal data and not information about other people unless you are acting on somebody else’s behalf with their expressed written consent

You have the right to edit or amend the data that we hold, and to ask that your data be deleted and removed from TLC records.
